The issue also features an in-depth interview of Adler with noted critic David DeBoor Canfield. In it, they discuss Adler’s performance career and his music. According to the reviewers, “Adler has assembled an attractive and diverse program, in which the contemporary pieces will fall gracefully even upon the ears of those who don’t necessarily gravitate toward modern works…Adler interprets Pictures at an Exhibition as a noble tribute to Hartmann and his visual art…An artfully constructed program, admirably performed. I will return to this disc with pleasure.”

“Daughters of Music,” by Adjunct Professor of Fine Arts James Adler with lyrics by Debra Harden Rue, for treble chorus, French horn and piano, was performed at the Sigma Alpha Iota National Music Fraternity’s 2018 National Convention on July 27. The work was performed by the Fort Worth Alumnae Chapter singers, under the direction of Dr. Jerome M. Birschenk, Sara Montanez, French horn, with James Adler, piano.

The performance took place at the SAI 49th National Convention at the Westin Kierland Resort, Scottsdale, Ariz. Colla Voce Music, the work’s publisher, released a new edition of “Daughters of Music” in September. More information on the composition is available here.

The show was broadcast locally and available worldwide online on Elizabeth Robson Norwood’s “The Arts Underground” series on Saturday April 7. The broadcast featured, among his many compositions, Adler’s recently released “A Winter Triptych” (Albany Records) and “Reverie, Interrupted” with tenor saxophonist Jordan P. Smith, adjunct professor of fine arts.
