This month, Horizon Blue Cross Blue Shield (HBCBS) of New Jersey hosted a healthcare industry forensic investigation information session. Over 35 students attended and learned about the healthcare industry, forensic investigations, protection of infrastructure from threats, demo of tools and applications to protect the infrastructure and career opportunities at HBCBS. This session was conducted by Timothy Dineen, CFE, director, special investigations, security and administration; Alan Leung, former director of enterprise security architecture; and Niraj Patel, team member manager of enterprise security architecture.

New Jersey CEOs from InCharged and MAINGEAR shared their success stories and perspectives on what the future holds for hardware. The talk focused on technology and cyber security.

A presentation showed highlights from the department such as internship opportunities in the Cyber Security Center, the Cyber Security Incubator and a new Cyber Security Research Lab. This elite group of graduate and undergraduate student cyber-warriors will work together to help implement cyber security and digital forensics software in the Cyber Security Center, conduct research, enhance the existing cyber security knowledge repository and learn how to protect systems from cyber-attacks.

On Wednesday, thirteen computer science students met with Francine Luce, principal of Ezra L. Nolan Middle School #40, in Jersey City, to kick-off the Google igniteCS education program. The igniteCS program is an initiative led by Google to support student groups that are committed to developing and delivering a computer science outreach program in their community (K-12). This program was made possible by an award given by Google, Inc., to the department of computer and information sciences.
Students will get paid to work as teacher aids, mentors and instructors in the middle school after hours program for nine weeks in the fall and spring semesters. Computer science topics include robotics, drones, programming and cyber security.

Professor Moskal developed examination content and prepared 30 questions that were approved for the three credit Fundamentals of Cyber Security Exam. Exam content related to major topics in cyber security included application and systems security, implementing authentication and authorization technologies, compliance, security pertaining to networks and physical environments, and vulnerability management.
